/ #557 MORATORIUM ON CONSTRUCTION IN CIRALI

2012-06-07 02:53

Cirali is one of the most outstanding places in the Mediterranean region. Not only for its extraordinary natural environment, its archeological sites, its magnificent setting, its prominence as a nesting place for the loggerhead sea turtle Caretta Caretta, but also for the ecological awareness of its longtime inhabitants. Cirali should be treasured and preserved.

I plead for a moratorium on the construction of any sports complex near the beach, further demolishing of the existing pensions, and of any further construction of whatever commercial building or non-resident vacation houses within the municipality's borders.
Since a few years construction activities have dramatically increased in the valley. Eco farming and farm land makes place for more pensions, hotels and commercial facilites. A highly undesirable development, because in no time little will be left of Cirali's ecological commitment... too many people, more waste and pollution, shortage of water etc. No further building activities, no further demolishing of excisting facilities!

Turkish administration and decision makers, wake up and realize the extraordinary value of Cirali within the Mediterranean region! Side, Belek, Alanya, Kemer, Tekirova.. if that is not enough to open your eyes for what mass tourism and money grabbers have destroyed, go visit the Spanish Costas to get a greater picture! Once prestine coastlines of shear natural beauty. Now filled with 1000's of kms of concrete jungle. Concrete ghost towns, not only because of the current economic crises but foremost because mass tourism has shifted location. Now it's Turkey and in a few years they'll move on again, to the next affordable holiday destination.

Turkish administrators and decision makers: wake up, save Cirali, it's a natural and heritage treasure!!
